I bought a Zildjian ZXT pack to start off with. I'll never look back on that decision! They were fantastic to start with:D

and now I'm onto to slightly more expensive cymbals... Zildjian Ks mostly...

B8's are a good start - but as others said would be nice to move to better cymbals later.

matters what style you into also?

zildjian and making some good stuff nowadays...and for good deals.

also check meinl. its up to u - make sure u hear a cymbal before you play it.

I have the B8 rock crash, however it is the least use cymbal on my kit. Thats not to say there is anything wrong with it, I just prefer brighter tones.

It all comes down to personal preference and what sound you are looking for. Some people take years and years to work out their ideal cymbal setup. I myself have gone through several sets and still aint happy

I use mixed cymbals all around. Paiste PST3's are a really good pack for the price, for starters. Now, I moved up to Paiste 2002 Hats and Zildjian Custom Hybrid Crashes. And Wuhan effects.

Hard rock and metal can go with Paiste Alpha, and Paiste PST3. Or, if you want to spend some money go with Sabian AA Metal-X.

Hey,

I'm buying my first drumkit. Im going for a Tama imperialstar and the seller offers paiste 101 series cymbals with them. My question is whether they are any good, or I should concider upgrading them for a small fee. What would be good alternatives for a starting drummer?

Thanks in advance,
Tristan

Personally I think you should stay with the Paiste for now, just until you learn how to play..see what kind of sound your looking for and give your self a little time to check out other cymbals in the stores, and play on those a little to see if its want you want first..Because as soon as you buy that cymbal, get it home and you dont like it.. you will be lucky to get 1/2 your money back..in some places..

On that note, if you do end up wanting to replace or upgrade a particular cymbal - take the cymbal you are replacing to the store with you, so that you can compare the sounds immediately. Nothing is more disappointing than bringing home a cymbal that sounds completely different in your studio than it did in the big room at the store.

Cheers
