I am getting really tired of using my hi-hat pedal on my electronic kit for double bass...it limits me waaaaay too much so:

What would be the most affordable double kicks that don't suck?

I've heard plenty of good things about this pedal.

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibraltar-Prowler-Double-Pedal?sku=490043

I would stay away from cheap pedals like the Sound Percussion or other no-name brands. Pacific pedals are alright, but I find that they don't really have the smoothness and response that I like. Then again, I don't use double pedals on my kit anyway, so my requirements for a single are pretty high.

The Yamaha and DW pedals are also great, depending on your price range. . .

The PDP Double Pedal is not that bad. It works for fills and stuff but not for helicopter beats. I tried one out once at a music store.

Don't bother with anything by Dixon, I have one, it's terrible. It's pretty sturdy and all, but the action is bad. Mind you, I'm probably spoiled now because I tried out an Axis double pedal at the music store, that thing was awesome!!! However, it's going to be awhile before I can spend $600 CAN on a new double pedal.

But, ditto on the Gibraltar, everyone seems to like their gear.

I use a Pearl P-1002 - a couple options short of being an eliminator - under $300 cdn

used gibraltor, ok gear

whatever kind, make sure the beaters are adjustable for distance from the head, i had one that was so far back, it left bruises on the top of my foot

Ha. . . I played a friend's Iron Cobra Jr. that had that exact problem - it can hurt a bit. Always bring your own pedal with you!

The Pearl pedal I had on my acoustic kit was a really nice pedal very smooth action, a little expensive. but when you buy it as a kit you dont seem to feel the pain as much as if you bought it separate..I now have a double chain set up on my Roland kit and there great pedals, im sure there not the best but there nice good action smooth..definitely allows me to achieve my doubles and triples..

Iron cobras are not always so cheap though. UFCfan you own a Vex how did it compare to other pedals in your opinion?

I believe the Iron Cobras are have a slightly heavier action than DW - maybe equally smooth and a bit more powerful, but DW seems to have really well-balanced pedals.

I have two double chain drive pedals that I bought when I purchased my Roland Kit and Im not even sure whos pedal make it is..because its a non electronic part you can substitute just about anything for it..I know it was not an expensive set, only because I had already spent so much money but its very smooth and the response is great..seem very tight, not sloppy at all..

That could almost be poetry, max. wink

Yeah, in my experience, the Yamaha pedals are nice. . . the default beater was a bit light for my taste, though.

I suggest you spend like 190 € (like 220 $) on a gibraltar Double base. They are REALLY good. Yes you spend some money but it's better than a 350 dollar double base.

You can definitely get a nice double base pedal for $250.00 especially when you use your 15% off or sale/coupons that come in the mail..
