I was in an accident a few years ago and messed up one leg and both hands. I rehabbed everything to the point where I don't know most people would notice anything wrong. However the one thing that I can't seem to do is to hold a drum stick. My right hand just doesn't seem to be able to keep the stick in place and after a few minutes it is dangerous to be around the kit. Does anyone have anything they would recommend to help me improve my stick control?

Sorry to hear about the accident..If its a loss of strength in the hand/wrist that you need to build up, squeezing a soft ball or the spring loaded hand grips work well along with wrist curls all light weight of course.. but if the damage is internal, nerve, or muscle damage, like a kind of paralysis to the hand then you should probably look into finding something like a glove (sticky or velcro ) type or something that will help you hold the stick as long as your still able to keep rhythm and some control, I would find a way to keep the stick in my hand..

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess it is a bit of a mixture of things. After reading your post I thought of something to try. I made 2 velcro rings, one to go my finger and one to go on the stick. They are fairly small, but seemed to be just enough to help me control things better.

And as my luck would have it as soon as I start playing more I wind up breaking my hand in a freak accident working around the house. Looks like my drums aren't in my immediate future. Maybe it is time for me to build a Rick Allen kit. wink
